PMC has experience of creating a system with pulsation and noise very well captured inside the hydraulic power pack. Noise levels of 65 dBA can be achieved at 300 bar pressure. The TPD pulsation damper is an active part of the overall concept but there are also suction line technology and technology for sound traps in the ventilation system of power packs that helps achieve overall silence.

Fluid-borne noise in hydraulic system

All types of hydraulic pumps and motors generate pressure pulsations in the hydraulic fluid. The pressure pulsations are propagated out into the system with very little attenuation in the fluid, resulting in vibrations within pipes. The vibrations are transmitted to building and machine structures via the points of contact on the hydraulic pipes, and audible structure-borne noise is emitted by the pipework and other vibrating surfaces.

The TPD pressure pulsation damper solves the problem

The pressure pulsation damper reduces the pressure pulsations and, as a result, the problem of structure-borne noise. Vibrations in pipework and valve panels often result in leaks, e.g. due to fatigue in connection fittings and sealing faces. Using pressure filters also allows more efficient filtration, thanks to the greater uniformity of the fluid flows obtained. The pressure pulsation damper therefore creates good conditions for ensuring clean, quiet and leak-free systems. PMC have long experience in the area of reducing pulsations created in modern hydraulic systems. Our TPD solution is a damper that has a high reduction of the base tone above 100 hz. This frequency is found on most systems with axial piston pumps, vane pumps or gear pumps from 1000 rpm. The TPD damper also creates low pulsation between the damper and the pump. There is no nitrogen gas inside the damper and it is a maintenance free product.

Marine pulsation damping


Bulk heads made of steel, with high pressure oil pipes passing through, can carry pulsations through an entire ship or fishing vessel. Pulsation dampers can make a huge difference in these applications especially in systems where pressures are constantly high. They also reduce the wear of seals in the system which reduce leakage on board.

Another focus area is the demand for low leakage in mobile machine applications with high concern for oil leakage to the environment.
